Client, Project: Compassion International // development, script, storyboards, pre-production, production, post-production, Flash

Compassion International is best known for their focus on the individual child through the intentional, long-term and big impact strategy of sponsorship. They partner with local churches to “tackle global poverty one child at a time, serving more than 1 million children in 26 of the world’s poorest countries.”

Timbuktoons worked with Compassion to develop, write and produce the animation to be used for introducing families to the “Sponsor A Child” program through promotions in retail stores nationwide.

Challenges:

  • Define and describe “sponsorship” to preschool and younger elementary children
  • Communicate the needs and benefits of sponsorship in an age appropriate manner
  • Highlight Compassion’s brand and key messaging within the narrative

Solutions:

  • Explain the concepts primarily through the children’s responses
  • Establish the local pastor character as the main connection to Compassion
  • Use visual cues (such as icons) to communicate key sponsorship concepts

Compassion International is a child advocacy group that takes a holistic approach to releasing children from poverty. Founded in 1952, it began by providing food, shelter, education and health care to Korean War orphans.

Awards: 2012 Davey Awards (Silver)
